London Pub

This is the Spaniards Inn
on Hampstead Heath.
It was built as a country house
in 1585 and became a pub
around the 17th century.

It is said that the bloodthirsty
highwayman Dick Turpin drank here.
It was certainly frequented by me
in 1986 and I thought I should pay
a visit again.
I trudged uphill from Hampstead
bus station!
I needed a drink when I got there!

There are very few very
old pubs left in London as
most were burnt down
in the Great Fire of London.
