New Lanark

New Lanark was a mill
town built over 200
years ago. It is now
a World Heritage site.

It was ahead of its time
because the manager,
Robert Owen, gave his
workers benefits
and living standards
that no one else did.

The workers were
provided with decent
housing, fair wages,
free health care and
education for the
children.

A typical house.
They had the first
nursery school in
the world.

The village shop.
There is a youth
hostel in the village
and I stayed there.
